Samsung at IFA event
has showed us it’s new Gear S watches in
two versions - Classic and Frontier.
They are mostly identical, though the latter earns its name with its more
adventurous nature. These watches comes with two options, WIFI only and
3G/LTE options. The watches now come with a speaker and a microphone as
standard, so they can handle voice calls . The watch can make the call by itself
or just serve as a hands-free for your phone. Note that only the Gear S3
frontier will have a 3G/LTE version. If you want Wi-Fi only, you can pick
between the frontier and classic.
The Specification:
Body: Stainless
steel; IP68 water and dust proof, and rotating bezel.
Bands: Leather/rubber;
standard 22mm bands work too.
Display: 1.3"
circular, 360x360px, Gorilla Glass SR+; Full color Always-on display.
Platform: Tizen
OS; iOS support in open beta.
Battery: 380mAh,
3-4 days (with power saving option).
The rotating
bezel gets a lot of features like answering the calls by just rotating the bezel clockwise
and vice versa, and you can control almost any app by the bezel, which is cool.
The biggest addition to the Gear S3 is Samsung Pay. After it is set up directly
on the watch, the NFC and MST (magstripe reading) tech put into the watch can
be used at a majority of pay stations across major stores. To activate you just
hold the back button until Samsung Pay launches. Select which card to use and
bring the watch close to the card slider or the NFC portion, if available.
By the way,
the Samsung Gear S2 will remain on sale, because Samsung thinks that the
Gear S2 is for different kind of audience.
