At 16th of September, Apple released its
first stable version of IOS 9 that has got plenty of features comparing to IOS
8. However, IOS 8 is more stable at this moment because of the updates that we
have seen recently which contains security updates, optimization updates, and
new updates like the updated music app which has a new look and some new
features.
Some of the IOS users have jailbreak and cydia tweaks
on IOS 8 unlike IOS 9 which we may see
a jailbreak tool for it later this year, but at the moment you should wait in
order to use your unofficial apps and tweaks.
IOS 9 upgrade isn’t a huge
deal for some people because of some reasons:-
Reason 1: IOS 9 designs did
not get any improvements comparing to the previous OS
Reason 2: The recent apps
screen looks uglier and more difficult to deal with. Also the third party
widget in the recent apps which is your favorite contacts isn’t available anymore.
There are some improvements in IOS 9 like the new
updated version of the note app which gives you the ability to write with your
hands, and a new ruler tool to draw a straight line if you want. Also there is
a new app called “News” app that collects all your chosen topics or websites to
read them at the same time, but it still needs some improvements.
While IOS 8 doesn’t have all those features, but it is
more stable and more reliable to use, and it’s more secure than IOS 9.
What about the improvements of IOS 9 in optimization?
As I saw in different tests of IOS 8 and IOS 9 on
iphone 6 using benchmarks, the results were identical in both performance and
optimization. Also, there are some other benchmarks shows that IOS 8 was
slightly faster than IOS 9.
We have seen a new feature in IOS called power saving.
It allows you to get an extra hour from your battery by optimizing the hardware
and software to get longer battery life. However, there are some tests showed
that the power saving feature doesn’t do anything comparing to IOS 8 on iphone
6, so it needs some improvements by software updates from Apple.
What else?
There are new updates in the maps app in IOS 9, and
the new page at the left side of the home screen, which is similar to the
briefing page on Samsung’s Touch wiz.
The maps app
in IOS 9 has got many features, and it’s a lot better than the previous version
in IOS 8.
A new search page appears in IOS 9 unlike the previous
IOS 8 and 7. This new searching page contains a searching bar, favorite
contacts, favorite apps, your favorite locations and some news from Apple’s
News app. This page reminds me to IOS 6 and 5, but with some improvements, so
keep it up Apple.
The new Siri app becomes more useful and helpful. It
has got a lot of improvements in IOS 9, so I think that this new OS from Apple
was to enhance Siri and make it more useful than its competitors; the awful
Cortana and the decent Google Voice.
At the end, if you want a stable OS you should wait
until the update IOS 9.1.2 comes or if you can’t wait to try the new features of
IOS 9 like Siri and the improved maps app, IOS 9 is available anytime you want
and it only needs 800 MB of data.
